Tandem Down Under – Australia 2007

One line across the red heart of the continent: train, tandem, a short car chapter, then tandem again until the Top End opened up. The full contemporaneous travel journal (German) from the trip is on the German page, with chapters, a table of contents, and the photo gallery at the bottom of that page.

Route snapshot

From Adelaide we took The Ghan to Alice Springs – a long outback crossing before the tandem took over.

From Alice we rode the tandem toward Uluru (Ayers Rock). For the return to Alice we used a hire car, then set off north by tandem toward Darwin.

Below is the archive gallery: a selection from the 2007 photo archive with a bias toward landscape and open country, unedited. The selection may change as the archive is curated; the story of the route and the travel notes remain the anchor, not a fixed number of images.

  • Starting in Adelaide, then The Ghan train through the outback to Alice Springs.
  • Tandem miles across the red centre toward Uluru and back into the rhythm of the road.
  • A rental car leg back to Alice when logistics asked for four wheels.
  • Northbound by tandem all the way to Darwin: heat, horizon, and long highway runs.

Travel journal

The contemporaneous travel notes from the 2007 tandem tour (in German) are preserved on the German heritage page: preparation, The Ghan to Alice Springs, Uluru, the ride north to Darwin, and a short statistics post — split into collapsible chapters with anchors; photos are in the archive gallery on that page — same pattern as the world-trip archive.
